2026 Chevrolet Colorado Interior, Redesign, Configurations
2026 Chevrolet Colorado Interior, Redesign, Configurations – The midsize truck market has gone through a renaissance, with a plethora of models catering to everyone from those looking for a reliable daily driver to those who dream of owning the ultimate off-road vehicle. When compared to midsize truck competitors like the Gladiator, Ranger, and Tacoma, the Colorado’s V6 engine achieves fuel efficiency that is right in the middle of the pack.
However, it appears to be underperforming in comparison to other products that utilize the same engine. Take the Blazer RS that I had driven a few weeks earlier as an example. It managed slightly better gas mileage over a weeklong test, averaging 11.5 liters per hundred kilometers. 2026 Chevrolet Colorado Interior

Exterior and Interior
The ride quality is clearly not something you’ll get used to right away, even though the handling is familiar. As it see-saws over cracked pavement, the Colorado’s ride might mimic that of a rocking horse due to a form of front-to-back stiffness. Furthermore, due to the driveline swinging when the rear wheels leap over obstacles, braking on uneven roads could be a little rattley.
In addition, the Colorado is wonderfully proportioned on the outside, but the inside lacks ample legroom, which is a shame. The Colorado stands out from other midsize SUVs like the Chevrolet Blazer, which has a roomier cabin than the Colorado, and from full-size trucks like the Silverado, which it more closely resembles. Those with refrigerator-sized frames might want to try on the Colorado before buying it, but males who wear size 40 suits or lower should have no problem finding enough room.
In addition, the seats aren’t very comfortable, leading to weariness and cramps due to the tiny, stiff cushions. The chairs come with a fabric and leatherette mix as standard upholstery, but real cowhide may be added for an additional $1,095. If the synthetic material is strong enough to endure the rigors of both work and pleasure, I wouldn’t mind saving the money.
The Colorado cabin is small, so it’s probably not the best choice for transporting a family. That brings us to our last argument. But when you’re ready to hit the single track with two or three pals, there’s plenty of space in the vehicle for everyone.
It should be noted that the Trail Runner is not a generic substitute for the Colorado ZR2, but rather a simple add-on for Z71 versions, such as the one I purchased. The Trail Runner package gives you a taste of the pickup truck’s flair and substance without going overboard, unlike the ZR2 that goes toward the extreme end of the spectrum—which may not be essential.
Since it is based on the Z71, that is actually an excellent location to begin using it. Picture it as a Canadian-only, four-wheel-drive take on the off-road light trim. It comes with a more durable suspension, hill descent control, an automatic locking rear differential, a skid plate for the transfer case, and more.
Featuring adjustable dampers, locking differentials, a higher suspension, and a vicious front bumper, the ZR2 is undoubtedly an excellent vehicle. It is adventure-ready. Because the Colorado modification is so precise, though, I’d like to retain the roughly $7,000 and acquire the Z71.

Engine and Performance
I got behind the wheel of a gas-powered V6 in the vehicle I tested. There are a lot of things about this engine that pique my interest, even if I would prefer the 2.8-liter turbo diesel. With its 3.6-liter displacement, the normally aspirated engine produces 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, which is an ideal output for a car of this size.
The Colorado may not be a sprinter, but its torque-assisted motor makes light work of revving it over 4,000 rpm. When compared to the 5,000 rpm engines found in the Blazer and Camaro, this is a significant improvement (5,300 rpm).
For the most part, the eight-speed automatic transmission understands the right gear to be in. While overtaking on the highway, though, it can become negligent and not downshift enough to give the necessary rpm to complete the task. In tow/haul mode, it is a bit more careful, holding gears for a little longer, so it can stay in the meaty half of the powerband. 2026 Chevrolet Colorado Interior
2026 Chevrolet Colorado Fuel Economy
After a week of testing, I got a cumulative rating of 11.9 liters per hundred kilometers. Although this does not meet the expectations set by Colorado Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), it above their assigned value of 12.2 liters per hundred kilometers. Driving north of the GTA on back roads is how I waste a lot of time when I’m behind the wheel, I’ll confess.
2026 Chevrolet Colorado Safety Features
While not the most significant consideration, gas mileage is a major one when looking for a pickup truck. Hopefully, this vehicle’s lack of high-tech safety features is indicative of its overall design philosophy. Even if it was just reactivated a few years ago, the Colorado could have only profited from the availability and high demand of particular pieces of equipment. Features like lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and automatic braking are ruled out by this.
In contrast, a safety upgrade kit allows you to install rear parking sensors, a lane departure warning system, and a front collision warning system. A backup camera is a government-mandated feature, the car comes standard with an electronic traction and stability control system, six airbags are strategically positioned throughout the interior, and there are many more features.
The majority of the IIHS crash test results were favorable; however, the Colorado performed poorly when evaluated for the passenger side’s short front overlap. The nonprofit organization found fault with the safety cage’s construction and integrity, saying, “the passenger’s survival space was not maintained well.”
2026 Chevrolet Colorado Price and Release Date
A further $600 is needed for the larger box on top of the initial $40,798 for the Colorado Z71 crew cab. Even with the V6 engine, it is still an impressive display for a contemporary truck. (Beside that, if you want diesel power, the total will go up by an astronomical $4,585.00.)
For around the same money, you can have a Ford Ranger that is identical in every way except for the engine; it’s a turbocharged four-cylinder. Alternatively, the Toyota Tacoma is significantly more expensive than the competing vehicle despite sharing all of the same specifications. For those who were keeping track at home, here is the aging Nissan Frontier from the previous season of Friends.
A few options, including the Trail Runner package, improved paint, spray-in bedliner, and more, brought the total cost of my test car to $48,183 (not including taxes). Included in this amount was optional equipment valued at $5,385. That level of change is acceptable, albeit still considerable, considering the practical and usability gains it provides. 2026 Chevrolet Colorado Interior
