2026 Chevy City Redesign and Update Plan
Exterior and Interior
The Express cargo van’s sole purpose is to transport freight, so it comes equipped with just two front seats. Following those dimensions, the cargo compartment measures 126.8 inches in length with the conventional wheelbase and 146.8 inches with the extended wheelbase.
The dimensions of the cargo compartment are 53.8 inches in height and 52.5 inches in width. Therefore, the short-wheelbase van has a capacity of 239.4 cubic feet, while the long-wheelbase van has a capacity of 283.6 cubic feet. With the shorter wheelbase, the Express passenger van can accommodate 12 people in its four rows of seats; with the longer wheelbase, it can seat 15 people in its five rows of seats.
Six outside roof rack mounting points, twenty integrated cargo mounting points within the base City Express, a vinyl floor, Bluetooth connectivity, power door locks, six floor-mounted D-rings, a driver information centre, and solid rear windows are all standard features. Rearview camera, 5.8-inch touchscreen, GPS, and satellite radio are all part of the Technology package. While the more expensive LT level comes standard with heated side mirrors, keyless entry, an additional 12-volt outlet, rear parking sensors, and cruise control, the more basic LS trim offers these features as options.

Engine and Performance
The only engine available for the 2026 City Express is a 2.0-liter I-4 that generates 131 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque. You can’t use this engine without a continuously variable transmission. The EPA has rated the 2026 City Express at 24/26 mpg city/highway, which is similar to the Nissan NV200. However, compared to competitors like the Ram ProMaster City and Ford Transit Connect, its highway fuel efficiency is slightly worse. Compared to the Ram ProMaster City and Ford Transit Connect cargo vans, its maximum load volume of 122.7 cubic feet is on the small side.
Fabric upholstery, keyless entry, a two-speaker sound system, 15-inch steel wheels, and a radio are standard features of the base LS model. The more expensive LT trim adds features like Bluetooth, cruise control, power heated side mirrors, rear park assist, and remote keyless entry. The appearance package boasts a chrome grille, body-colored door handles and side mirrors, a rearview camera, USB connectivity, satellite radio, navigation, and 15-inch alloy wheels.
2026 Chevy City Fuel Economy
We have tested the mechanically identical Nissan NV200, but not the 2016 City Express. We stated in our 2013 evaluation of the van for First Test and Long-Term Arrival that its primary purpose is to serve as a practical vehicle, and that all of its additional amenities are designed with that goal in mind.
A positive aspect of the NV200 is its comfortable seats, which are ideal for lengthy road trips; nevertheless, these seats are height-limited and give the impression of being tilted forward. While the 2.0-liter I-4 and CVT work well in urban areas, the van’s output is inadequate for highway driving. 2026 Chevy City Review
2026 Chevy City Safety Features
The 2024 Express has few active safety measures and driver assistance systems, even when compared to comparable commercial vans. Depending on the specifications, features like basic cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and front collision warning may be incorporated or not.
The Express is resembling a floppy disc in terms of technology compared to other contemporary vehicles. A head unit with an AM/FM radio and MP3 player capabilities, controlled by a compact LCD screen, is standard equipment. To comply with the law mandating backup cameras in all new vehicles, the Express conceals a small LCD screen under its rearview mirror; this screen turns on when the driver turns around to reverse. A USB connector, Bluetooth, and a satellite radio with controls located on the steering wheel are all available as optional upgrades.
2026 Chevy City Price and Release Date
Both the cargo van and the passenger van versions of the 2026 Express are offered with two different wheelbase lengths: the normal (135.2 inches) and the extended (155.2 inches). One practical trim level is available for cargo vans, with prices beginning at $34,295. An LT trim level, which is marginally less practical than the LS, is available for passenger vans; it costs around $2,100 more and includes features like cloth upholstery and cruise control.
Payload is the final distinguishing feature of each Express variation. With the regular wheelbase, an Express 2500 can support up to 3,280 pounds. An additional 1,000 pounds of capacity is yours when you upgrade to the 3500. 2026 Chevy City Review
